We're back at the Bollyhood on Thursday, 4/9! And this time, we've got company...amazing company! If you missed Queen Harish last time she was in SF, run, don't walk, to buy your tickets online--she is a force to be reckoned with! Also, don't miss the other amazing performers, including local legends FCBD and DJ Cheb I Sabbah!

Star of “Gypsy Caravan-Where the Road Bends”, Queen Harish comes to San Francisco for an exclusive workshop and show

A special addition to dj Cheb i Sabbah’s weekly Thursday residency at Bollyhood Café, Queen Harish launches her 2009 U.S. tour with
a performance in San Francisco, on Thursday, April 9. Also featured that night will be Bay Area Tribal Belly Dance pioneers
FatChanceBellyDance and Clandestine, Bolly-Bhangra Hip-Hop fusion dancers “bHop,” and Electric Vardo’s DJ Amar, spinning the
rhythms of the Gypsy Caravan.

Like a Classical Indian tapestry come to life, Queen Harish exudes feminine sensuality when she dances, capturing the hearts of all who
watch her. Her candle dance ignites imagination to a far away land of new and timeless territories. She swirls and dances, and you cannot
look away, nor would you want to. This amazing performer is a joy to watch and a pleasure to speak to in person. She flirts as naturally as
the rest of us breathe, and her eyes draw you into her. Graceful, Strong, and so very talented, the Queen is everything a performer should
be and more.

Queen Harish article in the Chronicle today

This made the front page of the Datebook section today! If you didn't see the actual paper, you can read the article here:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/07/21/DDLI11RGIS.DTL

Queen Harish dances in drag

Sandip Roy, Special to The Chronicle
Tuesday, July 22, 2008

"I like to copy the Bollywood actresses," Queen Harish says with a chuckle. "But not the new kinds with the very short, short clothes." She prefers the colorful, traditional full skirts of her native Rajasthan. After being featured in the musical documentary "When the Road Bends: Tales of a Gypsy Caravan," Indian drag sensation Queen Harish has become quite the jet-setter. New York, London, Barcelona, Tokyo - "the dancing, whirling, desert drag queen," as she calls herself, is everywhere, flying in for celebrity weddings, giant outdoor concerts and gay parties. "They were hot," she says after performing at the packed Desilicious pride party in sweltering New York this year. "I have to make them more hot."

Harish is also married and a dad. He goes to his local Hindu temple twice a day. And he says he'd never even heard the term "drag queen" until he came to the West.

In his hometown of Jaisalmer, a desert city in Rajasthan, men are known for their machismo and fierce, curling mustaches; the women veil their heads and wear armloads of bangles. As a boy, Harish loved to watch Bollywood films on TV, copy the actresses, choreograph their songs. "But I did it in my head," he says with a giggle on the phone from San Diego. "The whole family was watching together. I wasn't alone."

Then his teacher chose him to play Lord Krishna for the school concert. "My teacher noticed I loved to dance, but knew I can't perform as Harish. I was too shy," he remembers. Playing the blue-skinned god, bedecked in jewelry, Harish realized that no one could recognize him. It freed him. "Even now if you know me as Queen Harish and Harish passes by, you won't recognize me," he says.

Friends suggested he should try women's clothes because his features were "nice." When he looked at himself in the mirror in full makeup, he was amazed. "Before that I didn't know I am beautiful," he says. "After I took off my makeup, I could still smell it all night. It was beautiful."

But Harish was embarrassed about his dancing queen alter ego. He held down a daytime job with the telegraph office and only did private shows. His parents had died while he was still in his teens, leaving him with his two sisters. "I had to take care of many heavy things," he says. He realized that dance could help support the family. "My hobby became my profession. God was behind me."

The star attraction

Arnaud Azzouz was definitely behind him. The manager and director of the Musafir and Maharaja Gypsy dancer collective included Harish in the troupe and took him on shows abroad. He gave him the name Queen Harish. Soon Queen Harish's acrobatic, fast-paced folk dances became the star attraction.

"It's not just a change of clothing," Jasmine Dellal, director of "When the Road Bends" which comes out on DVD next month, said by e-mail. "When Harish is on stage s/he totally becomes the dancer in the sequin dress. I remember one day our cameraman was flirting with Harish playfully, not realizing that 'she' had been a man just an hour earlier." (Indian film director Basu Chatterjee once offered Harish the part of a Rajasthani woman in his film, not realizing he was a man.)

Dellal accompanied Harish to his hometown of Jaisalmer. She was surprised to find that in that conservative traditional corner of India, "they respected the fact that he is making his living this way. And he has a nice house to show for it." When Harish was about to get married, he says his would-be in-laws "watched" him for six months. "They listened to my whole community," he says. "It's not like we just chat online and get married."

But he still tries to keep his professional and private lives separate. His wife and he don't go shopping for dresses together. "I have my own designer," he chuckles.

"He is always flirting but very sweet," says San Francisco composer and world musician Cheb i Sabbah, who just did a gig at the Getty Center in Los Angeles with Queen Harish. Sabbah says he knew of him but they had never met until Harish e-mailed him through MySpace. Queen Harish was coming to New Jersey to dance at a wedding and wanted to perform with Sabbah somewhere. "We spoke on the phone, but we had no time to rehearse until we went in for sound check," Sabbah says. "But he just danced from the heart. And when he whirled on his knees, it was like 'Wow.' "

Dellal isn't surprised that Queen Harish turned a wedding invitation into a full-fledged U.S. tour. Harish, says Dellal, is the kind of enterprising person who can find Indian food within a short distance of any theater while on tour.

Can't stay mad

"Not only that, he would steal my interns when I wasn't looking, to help him collect the food," she recalls. But she says it was impossible to be angry with him. He'd just run around backstage saying "No tension, no tension."

Nowadays, Harish is busy launching his solo career. But he says he won't forget his awkaat, where he came from. He makes sure the tailor who made him his first costumes still gets his business. Twice a year he walks to a temple 500 miles away to dance for free all night. "And when I dance, I am clean of heart and clean of body," he says seriously.

But do men fall in love with his onstage courtesan persona?

"Come and watch the performance," he says, instantly flirtatious. "That answer I will have to give face to face."
Queen Harish Workshop 7/26

Hey dance enthusiasts!

On 7/26 Clandestine is proud to host a Bollywood workshop with the amazing Queen Harish from Rajasthan. Words can't describe what a beautiful dancer he is--Sue and I saw him at the Zellerbach Theater during one of his tours with Maharaja, and when he danced, the entire audience gasped with wonder. Seriously! You may remember him from the tour documentary Gypsy Caravan (When the Road Bends), which premiered in SF awhile back. He doesn't come to the states very often, so this is a rare opportunity to learn from a famed international teacher. We think it's going to be tons of fun!

Don't miss out!
Beth

************************************************************
Bollywood workshop with Queen Harish
Saturday, 7/26
1-3 pm
3435 Cesar Chavez St. between Valencia and Mission, SF
www.migoto.com/queen
$35 pre-registration price through 7/15; $45 after 7/15 and at the door
For the advance price, visit: http://queenharish.eventbrite.com/?discount=clandestine

Clandestine is honored to present Queen Harish in an exclusive workshop featuring the "mujra" style of dance, as seen in Bollywood movies such as Devdas and Umrao Jain.

Mujra dance, once an Indian court dance, is a variation on Kathak dance, infused with fast spinning, swift movements, facial expressions, and graceful Persian-influenced hand gestures. The dance form evokes the classical feel of the black and white films produced at the beginning of the Bollywood film era.

No experience in Kathak or Indian dance necessary. The workshop will be a fun and lighthearted way to enjoy the dance form.

Please wear comfortable dance clothes. Full skirts are suggested (they will look lovely when you spin!) but not required.

Feel free to email Clandestine with any questions about this workshop.
For more information about Queen Harish, see the bio posted on www.migoto.com/queen, or visit http://queen-harish.blogspot.com/. There's also a fabulous video clip posted on the eventbrite page if you'd like to see him in action in a Bollywood film!

Finally, Queen Harish and the lovely Colleena Shakti will be performing at the Bollyhood Cafe on Wednesday, 7/23. Tickets on sale now at http://queenharish.eventbrite.com! For more information about the show, visit www.electricvardo.com.
5/25: Clandestine at the Caledonia Street Fair

Sunday, May 25, CALEDONIA STREET FAIR, Sausalito
Clandestine performs 1:45 p.m.
Admission: FREE! ALL AGES!

This is our 8th year at this fair, and it's one of our favorites; a
chance to enjoy beautiful downtown Sausalito, on a street packed with
yummy food, fun vendors and great music and dance performances.
We will be dancing on the International Dance Stage, which has been
found in the past at Caledonia and Locust. (But best to do a reality
check once you get there.) They tend to run on time, so don't be late!
And parking can be tricky, so allow time for that (or take public
transit).
This year the fair will take place on Sunday, May 25th from 11 a.m.
to 6:00 p.m.
For more info:

Hey friends,
Hope you had a fabulous Valentine's Day! We did!
When she's not riding mechanical bulls or wrangling character animators, Sue can be found patiently teaching students how to belly dance. Come out and learn from a master teacher in a beautiful and unintimidating studio space.

hi Beth & everyone

I just found an email from one of my friends who'd gone to Sue's workshop in Victoria and was chasing a copy of her workshop cd, and I remembered ages ago seeing a track listing from the last time she'd visited Australia? I was wondering if you had a track listing of the two cds perhaps - I remembered one cd definitely had an eery, soft, floaty music with pipes i thought (i am also a bit bone weary so dont blame me if im off target)...I know she was also playing the la kahena remix cd? Or otherwise what's rocking your boat right now?

This way we can go hunt on itunes or perhaps we can purchase a copy and send?

Thank you thank you, I'll go be quiet now, and stop planning on kidnapping her from Perth :)

Licky Calendar is ready!!

Hey all,
You might remember the benefit for our dear friend Andra and her cat Licorice in July (wow, was it really July? seems like yesterday!). Well, I'm pleased to announce, thanks to popular demand, that we've created a Licky calendar!
The Licky Calendar is done and posted and ready for purchase! That's right, 12 months of Licky in his snazziest duds, all painstakingly designed and handmade by his "mom" Andra. Don't miss out on:

Tuxedo Licky
Lick-prechaun
Licky de Mayo
Cirque du So Licky
ShowBoy Licky

and, my own personal favorite, the first black pope!
All this for $24.99--a bargain! No one else will offer such a great calendar, and all proceeds go toward Licky's vet bills (he's doing great now, by the way, but continues to visit the vet frequently and is on a special diet).

And, the URL for all this fabulousness?

www.cafepress.com/lickycat

Go buy! Go buy now! Go buy many! ;-)

Andra and Licorice say thanks from the bottom of their hearts.
Hugs,
Beth

Alison Fensterstock, Baby Doe and Liftoff! are proud to present...
Tease-O-Rama 2007 - A sultry, sizzlin' convention of burlesque and dance!

Tease-O-Rama is the first convention dedicated to the thriving neo-burlesque revival. First and foremost, we strive to create an open forum for performers reviving this uniquely American art form to meet, perform, share their skills and get up-to-date on developments in this evolving and exciting art scene. The medium of burlesque viewed through a twenty-first century lens offers endless opportunities for performance - from classic glamour to wry satirical commentary to carnivalesque freak-show skills, Tease-O-Rama has it all! SEE performances from over 200+ contemporary pinup queens, TAKE classes in everything from tassel-twirling to burlesque history, MEET the Legends of days gone by and so much more!

When we started planning for the first Tease-O-Rama in 2001, we had no idea burlesque would take off to the extent that it has - hints of vintage striptease are turning up everywhere from Broadway to the shopping mall to the Vegas strip. We hope to grow with it and continue providing the best in new burlesque for years to come. So come see what everyone's shaking and shimmying about - you won't be disappointed!

Don't miss your favorite act! Each night of Tease-O-Rama is totally unique!

Tribal Cafe Screening of "Tribal Style: Becoming a Belly Dancer"

Went off without a hitch. Just a hiccup in the beginning when the projector got out of sync, but Laura was there and kept the crowd laughing. I sat next to Rachel Brice, my all around most excellent friend, and we held hands and cried at certain part and hugged at certain parts and laughed. And then realized that there were a lot of other people doing the same things.

Thank you to Clandestine, Beth and Sue, Miss Frederique, (who must learn to control her reactions when she sees her self on screen ;) but I understand, if it weren't for the fact that I was having a heart attack every time I heard a noise thinking that the projector went out I would have been doing the same thing... ps thanks for letting me wear your hat!), and Fat Chance Belly Dance, who got a standing ovation and rocked the house. Thank you for dancing before the show and really giving the screening a sense of occasion.

It was really nice to know that what I captured was truly the essence of our experience and I'm so happy to know now that we really really all share it.

Thank you most of all to the Lazarus & Soto for putting this thing together, hosting it all and Music Supervising the movie. I owe you really more then I can say. Thank you just seems a little unworthy but that's all I got. Thank you Jeremiah and Rachel for making Tribal Cafe a truly amazing experience for me, you ROCK!!!

Lucky Licky Benefit 7/7/07

Hey all,
Beka already posted about this, but just to give you a bit of background...
Sue and I are organizing a benefit to help a dear friend of ours, Andra (of Azure Tribal Belly Dance...you may require that she "retired" from belly dance but has actually been belly dancing more than ever lately!). Her sweet cat Licorice (featured in the bee costume in this tribe's main pic) was very ill. He went through two hospital stays (in ICU), 2 different vets, was poked and prodded, had acupuncture and MRIs and exploratory surgery, and now he's finally back home and feeling much better (phew!). He acquired quite a bill however, and since he doesn't have insurance (like most pets) Andra is stuck a vet bill of about $10K (on a preschool teacher's salary!).
Andra's also getting married in 4 months! So Sue and I decided to pitch in and try to help, even just the littlest bit, by throwing her a benefit. If you know Andra and Licky, you know they are the sweetest, gentlest, kindest folks in the world, who would do anything for you. Even if you don't know Andra (and you SHOULD! ;-), I hope you'll come out and enjoy the fine array of entertainment we have lined up for you. Andra is performing twice, once doing a hula piece, and once with Azure. She and Licky thank you from the bottom of their hearts!

It's early summer, 1965, somewhere on the coast of Thailand, and a bunch of Watusi-rockin', hip-shakin' kids have come to go-go the balmy night away. We invite you to step back in time and join us for our THIRD Exotica A Go-Go!

Featuring:
Live dance performances all night long by those groovy go-go goddesses, The Devil-Ettes! We are proud to introduce TWO new Devil-Ettes: The Glamazon and The Preacher’s Daughter. A Wild Soundtrack by DJ's: El Guapo and The Jab, and legendary '60's soul band Her Grace the Duchesss (performing TWO sets!), Swordplay and shimmying by Clandestine Belly Dance, shenanigans by the ONLY all male gorilla dance troupe in America - The Devil-Apes, AND non-stop moxie by The Mini-Skirt Mob.

Her Grace the Duchess (San Francisco)
PLEASE SAY GRACE......... Sweat flyin, thighs showing, and fringe on the move, Her Grace The Duchess Soul Review is deeply and proudly indebted to the hot, thumping sounds of Ike and Tina Turner. The new band's nine-strong lineup is full of sweet horns, funky bass, and the synchronized dance moves of front women Heather Levroni, Sarah Reed (also of The Husbands) and Kelly Parrot. The pre-disco inferno this act intends to whip up should leave dance floor victims sore for a couple days; as Reed puts it, "Finally you can let it loose, let it all hang out, get uptight, AND do the Four Corners, the Buttered Popcorn, the Unwind and The Camel Walk, both euphemistically and literally. -Hiya Swnahuyser

The Devil-Ettes (San Francisco)
Sassy, sultry, yet utterly All-American, The Devil-Ettes provide good clean fun for kids of all ages! The Devil-Ettes have gained notoriety for putting on a wickedly wild high-energy show where you will witness historical dances from the hey-day of 1960’s Go-Go including the hully gully, the monkey, the frug, the watusi and oh so many more great dance steps. The Devil-Ettes also host an event throughout the year for the under-aged set called Pip Squeak A Go-Go where the gals teach lost and forgotten go-go moves to the next generation.

Andra sent me a flier for the show. I SOOOO wish I could be there. No only because of the awesome line-up (Clandestine, Azure, Amar, Frederique, Evil Eye, Red Lotus, Freya, Hula... WOW) but because Licky is a dear old friend of mine and I want to contribute!

Is there anyother way I can make a donation?

5/26: Let's Go to Casablanca with Clandestine

No, we're not taking a day trip out of the country...we're performing at the opening night of Let's Go to Casablanca at the Town Hall Theater in Lafayette. Come out and see a fabulous play, and then enjoy a sassy Clandestine performance in the lobby afterwards--the cherry on top of your ice cream! And (ahem), the play features Sue's talented niece D'Arcy, in town from New York! It's a family affair--two Erokans for the price of one. ;-)
Deets below.

**************************
Saturday, 5/26, 8 p.m.
http://www.thtc.org/season/2006_07/casablanca.htm
Adults $32, Youth $25, Senior $29
3535 School Street at the corner of School Street and Moraga Road in Lafayette
Box Office: 925-283-1557

Town Hall Theatre Company brings Let’s Go to Casablanca to the stage. This is the much anticipated sequel to Let's Go to the Movies - the smash hit musical written just for Town Hall that was sold out and critically acclaimed.

Kevin T. Morales’ fictional theater company is back and up to its eyeballs in debt. The board of directors forces artistic director Darin Snyder to try to create another hit musical a la Let's Go to the Movies. Taking a cue from Broadway, the board president figures the sequel should be based on a hit film. Darin abhors the idea of basing a musical on a film, but push comes to shove, and he can’t afford to lose his job with his first child on the way. The board picks “Casablanca” – the best film, in their opinion, to be musicalized. Can Darin save the theater, his marriage and his artistic integrity, all while making one of the most beloved films of all time into a musical comedy according to the board’s rules? Kevin T. Morales and his fictional counterpart will find out.

5/27: Clandestine at the Caledonia Street Fair

Hey everyone,
I can hardly believe it's that time of year again!
Clandestine performs this weekend at the Caledonia Street Fair in lovely Sausalito. This is one of our all-time favorite venues...the weather is lovely, the shopping is fantastic, there are music and dance performances all day, and there is yummy food galore. Come out and play!
Deets below!
Beth

***************************************************************
Sunday, May 27, CALEDONIA STREET FAIR, Sausalito
Clandestine performs 1:15 p.m.
Admission: FREE! ALL AGES!

This is our 7th year at this fair, and it's one of our favorites; a
chance to enjoy beautiful downtown Sausalito, on a street packed with
yummy food, fun vendors and great music and dance performances.
We will be dancing on the International Dance Stage, which has been
found in the past at Caledonia and Locust. (But best to do a reality
check once you get there.) They tend to run on time, so don't be late!
And parking can be tricky, so allow time for that (or take public
transit).
This year the fair will take place on Sunday, May 27th from 10:30 a.m.
to 6:00 p.m.
For more info:

Hey all,
I thought you may be interested in this documentary--I actually saw the original show at Zellerbach when it toured, and it kicked ass. I'm excited to see the documentary--we're going on Friday night. Plus, there's Johnny Depp!! What could be better?
Here's the description from the website--use of the "G" word is theirs, not mine!

“You Cannot Walk Straight When the Road Bends” - Romani Proverb.

The Rom people know music. And travel. So it’s not surprising that their music comes from every part of the globe. In Jasmine Dellal’s amazing “Gypsy Caravan,” five Gypsy bands from four countries on a North American concert tour astound audiences with styles ranging from flamenco to brass band, Romanian violin to Indian folk. And with humor and soul in their voices, they celebrate the best in Gypsy culture and the diversity of the Romani people in an explosion of song and dance.

Director Dellal developed her filmmaking chops in the Bay Area as a student of Marlon Riggs, and continues her explorations of Gypsy culture begun in her first feature, “American Gypsy.” Shot by legendary documentarian and cinematographer Albert Maysles (Gimme Shelter, Gray Gardens), the film pulsates with performances by Macedonian diva and "Queen of the Gypsies" Esma Redzepova, traditional Indian folk troupe Mahraja, Romanian Fanfare Ciocarlia, the violin wizardry of Romanian group Taraf de Haidouks, and the Antonia El Pipa Flamenco Ensemble. Guest appearance by Johnny Depp, a fan.

DECADE--10 years of Beth and Sue!
Sunday, February 11, Doors at 8 pm
$6-10 sliding scale
Place: The Stud
Address: 399 9th Street, SF (x Street Harrison)
www.electricvardo.com

Once upon a time, in September 1996, Beth and Sue met in a belly dance class...and the rest is history!
Electric Vardo presents: 10 years of Beth and Sue! We are really excited to celebrate our 10 year anniversary of dancing together with a special evening featuring some of the most important people from our 10-year dance journey. Very appropriately, The Stud is hosting our celebration--10 years ago, Sue met Michael (now of Azure Tribal Belly Dance) there, and he gave her a flyer for the previously mentioned belly dance class. So in a way, The Stud is responsible for Clandestine's existence!

Featured performers for the evening are:

Dancers:
Clandestine (of course)--performing some recent favorite pieces; Sue and I will also perform new duet piece(s)
Azure
Bastet
Frederique

Sooozhyq on doumbeq

DJs:
Amar (also event co-producer, miracle worker)
Jimmy Love

Please come share in our celebration! Hope to see you there!

Jewelry Party 12/3!!

Hey all,
I just wanted to let you know about a jewelry party Sue and I are co-hosting on Sunday 12/3 at Sue's house, from 2-5 pm...it is not bellydance jewelry specifically, although some of the chunkier pieces would be great for your costume!
Our friend Renee Bastet of Bastet jewelry makes amazing necklaces, earrings, and bracelets with all natural stones (moonstone, garnet, quartz, etc.) and sells them at very reasonable prices. Come support a local artisan and get your Christmas shopping done at the same time!
Let me or Sue know if you're interested in coming and we'll send you the address in a separate message. She lives in the Glen Park area of the city, very easily accessible by BART and 2 freeways.
To check out some of Renee's jewelry, visit: www.bastetjewelry.com
We will also have a tarot reader there...come find out your fortune for 2007!
Hugs,
Beth

Yeah, Clandestine walked into the darkness of ShadowDance Friday night and steamed up the stage with their sultry dance style, adding an extra special element to the night.

I love seeing the different faces of Clandestine, showing their diversity and amazing audience-capturing stage presence, from New Year's Bling Bling to gothy heat, from swords to rhinestones. There girls know how to stretch their boundaries.
Hi, Sue! Question about your Australia trip

Yes, it's a voice from your past!

Peter, Alexandra (the former bump in the photo, now a bustling toddler), and I have been living a peaceful, slightly sleep-deprived existence down here in Clint Eastwood territory. However, we are now about to relocate permanently to Sydney, mostly to be closer to Peter's family. Where did you teach on your Australia trip? Do you have any recommendations about tribal-friendly dance teachers to look up in Sydney?

Miss you and Beth,
Elizabeth

I'm sure Lenay has already told you, but I'm coming to SF!!!! Arrive Aug 3 and leave the 9th, and plan to dance my butt off while I'm there. I can't wait.

It's a long overdue trip to see Lenay and a long overdue trip to the mecca of Tribal--and a much needed break from the buildup of yuck from living in a disaster zone. (Yes, it's getting better, but no, it's not better yet). So, yaya! I'm so excited that I've already used five exclamation points.....

see you soon.
love.

Ethnic Dance Festival

Hey all,
This has nothing to do with Clandestine except for our interest in watching the show!
Sue and I went to see the first weekend of the Ethnic Dance Festival on Sunday. This is maybe our 8th or 9th year attending now, and I am always blown away, inspired, and renewed in my love of dance. I can't recommend this festival enough. Lots of you probably know about this festival (I saw some familiar faces there! And heard some zagareets when Hahbi Ru performed!), but for those of you who don't, never fear--there are two more weekends left. And it's at the best venue--I adore the Palace of Fine Arts.
This year they've really stepped it up and have slick new programs and actual food (not just cookies!) at the snack bar.
For more info, check out the schedule at: http://www.worldartswest.org/main/edf_lineup.asp?i=2006
Also, if you can't afford to go to the show itself, the auditions held in January are a steal--$5 for a whole day of auditions. I love to go to both when my schedule allows.
Hugs,
Beth

Hey folks,
I put up tons of new pix in the gallery--more from Tribal Fest, some from an evening at Kan Zaman (we took Deb from Australia's Urban Turban and her student Chris there for dinner), and some from the Caledonia Street Fair in Sausalito. I should have even more photos coming in from other cameras pretty soon.
Enjoy!

5/28: Clandestine at Caledonia Street Fair

Hey kiddos,
We're ready to do it all over again!
That's right, Clandestine performs this weekend at the Caledonia Street Fair. And...the TUAREG jewelry vendors will be there too. How can you resist? The answer: you can't. Come out and play!
Deets below!
Beth

***************************************************************
Sunday, May 28, CALEDONIA STREET FAIR, Sausalito
Clandestine performs 1:30 p.m.
Admission: FREE! ALL AGES!

This is our 6th year at this fair, and it's one of our favorites; a
chance to enjoy beautiful downtown Sausalito, on a street packed with
yummy food, fun vendors and great music and dance performances.
We will be dancing on the International Dance Stage, which has been
found in the past at Caledonia and Locust. (But best to do a reality
check once you get there.) They tend to run on time, so don't be late!
And parking can be tricky, so allow time for that (or take public
transit).
This year the fair will take place on Sunday, May 28th from 10:30 a.m.
– 6:00 p.m.

It’s May! The time of year when a belly dancer’s thoughts turn to…Tribal Fest!!!

I mentioned earlier that our own Sue Erokan is co-teaching a workshop with Michael McElhaney of Azure. Their class, “hip combos,” focuses on some of our favorite hip work, and there’s still time to sign up!
The class description can be found at: http://www.blacksheepbellydance.com/tf6/thursday.html

Workshop location:
Sebastopol Community Center, Main Auditorium
390 Morris Street
Sebastopol, CA 95472
To sign up:
http://www.blacksheepbellydance.com/tf6/registration.html

And, of course we're performing too!

Saturday, May 20, TRIBAL FEST PERFORMANCES, Sebastopol
Clandestine/Azure performs 1:54-2:14 p.m.
AND Beth and Sue perform in Bastet’s set directly afterward, at 2:16-2:46 p.m.
Admission: $15, all ages

Clandestine is excited to join forces with Azure Tribal Bellydance once more this year, in an exciting blended set that showcases the differences and similarities between our two groups.
Afterward, Beth and Sue of Clandestine will take part in the tribal extravaganza performance hosted by Bastet, a half-hour set featuring 2-minute vignettes from oodles of different tribal performers, followed by a group improvisation at the end—last year there were so many of us that we overflowed off the stage and into the aisles of the audience! This year’s performers include Bastet, Beth and Sue of Clandestine, Shawna Rai of Natya Hara, Amy Sigil of Unmata, Atash Maya, Belly Groove, Danger Sassy Pants, and Krysten.

For more info: http://www.blacksheepbellydance.com/tf6/perf.html and http://www.blacksheepbellydance.com/tf6/faq.html
Festival location:
Sebastopol Community Center
390 Morris Street
Sebastopol, CA 95472

Sooo....feel free to self-promote! Are you going to TF6? Vending? Teaching? Performing? Let us know where/when. I'm excited! This year is going to be tons of fun.

Hey folks,
I just posted a flyer in our gallery for a jewelry sale Sue and I are hosting. No, it's not *necessarily* belly dance jewelry, although I could see some of the pieces working in that way, but just fun jewelry made by Renee, Bastet, a dear friend of ours--Sue and I are frequently sporting necklaces made by Renee, so you've probably already seen and admired her work!
Contact Sue or me for the address (it's at Sue's house). Here's the rest of the relevant info:

Sunday, 4/2
2-5 pm
Jewelry show by Renee Bastet
www.bastetjewelry.com
email: clandestinebellydance (at) gmail.com with any questions, or contact us through tribe.

Hope to see you there!

2/24: Clandestine and Frederique at Supperclub

Hey all,
I don't have all the details yet, but I wanted to give everyone the head's up that Sue and I are performing at the Supperclub on Friday, February 24, dancing with Frederique--that's right, it will be like a mini Romani reunion. Don't miss this historic occasion!
Here's what we know so far--more details to come:

Friday, 2/24--9 pm - 2 am
Supperclub presents Cheb I Sabbah
with Frederique and Clandestine
657 Harrison Street
San Francisco

Hope you can make it! We performed at a wedding at the Supperclub before it had officially opened, and I must say we had a fantastic time. It's a great SF experience!!

CLANDESTINE TEACHERS! Amazing!!!!!

Sue and Beth are amazing teachers as well as dazzling performers.

Took all Sue's classes that started last year then began private lessons. I love it!

I am now getting private lessons from Beth as well. Or as we affectionately refer to her as "No-Mercy-Masse" !

Both of these women are patient, detailed and inspiring teachers. They are so good at breaking down the moves and taking the time that's needed to acquire confidence. They love to laugh as well as drill. I highly recommend both Sue and Beth!

I hope they continue to share their talents with the community. I JUST LOVE THEM BOTH!!!

Elbows up!

Bend those knees!

Tuck those hips!

oh, and smile...

DVD?

I was watching the video clip of Sue and Beth for the "Tribal Style" DVD, and it made me think about the DVD footage that Sue showed us in the workshop, and *that* got me to wondering:

Is there any DVDs or Videos out there of Clandestine Performances? Because I would love to get my hands on them, if there are.

Australian Workshops CD

I'm not sure whether to ask Sue or Alaine this question, so I will ask you both - is it possible to get a track listing for the CD that I bought at the workshop? There are a couple of songs on there that I am unfamiliar with, and I would love to find out who the artists are.
